Upgrade your drill press with this Drill Press Table and Fence. The small metal table that came with your drill press was obviously not designed for woodworking. It's too small, hard to clamp onto, and it doesn't work well with a fence. So to make your drill press woodworker-friendly, we created this Drill Press Table and Fence.
First, there's a large auxiliary table that covers the metal drill press table (see photo). It offers plenty of support for long pieces. It's made up of two layers so it's very rigid. The top layer has a removable center piece. When it gets chewed up with use, you can easily slide it out and insert a new one. You can also make inserts to fit varying sizes of drum sanders.
The table also has an adjustable fence. To position it quickly and accurately, it slides along two T-shaped slots in the table. And simple toilet bolts lock it in place.
The base and fence are made of 3/4"-thick plywood. The tabletop and inserts are 1/4" hardboard. The hardware is readily available at home centers and hardware stores.
The overall size of the Drill Press Table and Fence is 30" long x 12" deep x 4" high. This project was originally published in ShopNotes No. 38.
