Perfect dadoes everytime! For cutting snug-fitting dadoes exactly where you want them, it's hard to beat this jig. It makes layout so easy, you'll be cutting dadoes instead of fussing with measurements.
With this jig, there's no more fiddling to position a straight edge just right so the router bit cuts exactly where you want. And even if you need to make two passes (for a wide dado or to fit an odd-size piece of plywood), there's no need to re-adjust the jig to sneak up on the final width.
The reason is simple. You set the jig to form an opening that's the exact template of the width of the dado. Once you set this opening, what you see is what you'll get. Then simply clamp the jig on the workpiece at the desired location for the dado. The jig even squares itself to the workpiece automatically.
You can use this jig to rout dadoes from 1/2" to 1-1/2" wide in workpieces up to 25" across. We made our jig with 1/4" hardboard and a couple piece of hardwood for the cleats at the ends of the jig.
The overall size of the jig is 10" wide x 30" long x 2 - 5/16" high. This project was originally published in ShopNotes No. 20.
